High Potential - ExecOnline

High Potential Programs

High potential programs are a critical component of any organization’s leadership development portfolio. However, just having a HiPo program is not enough – the design, content and experience of your HiPo program must actually lead to the desired organizational impact.

ExecOnline offers scalable, flexible solutions with practical project-based application – allowing you to create an impactful program that meets the immediate needs of your business.

The Challenge

  • Ensuring that your high potential designation and development process can keep up with an ever-changing business environment and talent ecosystem. (For instance: 55% of HiPos fall out of the HiPo pool in over 5 years, according to research from CEB).
  • Building programs that allow for quick adjustments to content, as learning objectives for high potential leaders shifting frequently due to changes in the business environment and organizational strategy.
  • Creating high potential programs that are scalable in nature, in order to reach enough people to really impact the talent pool.

Why High Potential Programs?

Why might an organization want to implement a high potential program?

Organizations develop high potential programs in order to cultivate a pool of talent that can readily take on leadership roles and address emerging business challenges. High potential programs are most commonly found at the mid-level of the leadership ladder (ie: Directors) but may extend to VP and Manager populations.

How will an ExecOnline program support high potential development efforts?

There is no “one size fits all” high potential program. These programs vary widely across organizations – from the level of leaders selected to the learning objectives to the type of content incorporated. ExecOnline offers a variety of programs to meet the unique needs of a given organization, and the flexibility that allows you to adjust your content as your needs evolve. The project-based approach allows high potentials to test and apply their learnings in real time, and also provides an opportunity for participants to showcase their capabilities to the senior stakeholders and HR leaders who have a vested interest in their continued development and success.

When should you consider implementing a high potential program?

There is a lot of variety in the frequency and cadence of high potential programs. Some companies send one small cohort through annually, while others strive to send dozens of high potentials through a development experience each year. Most organizations wish to develop more high potentials than they do currently, but find that the cost and effort associated with this type of development is prohibitive. The ExecOnline approach is more scalable than traditional in-person programs, and can help companies increase the scope and impact of their efforts.

The live meeting structure was excellent, including the breakout team forum. Very useful and interesting to hear the other team members’ experiences. The take aways are key for developing my own personal case, and the facilitator did a great job. The overall experience was excellent.
