  An empiricist, Asquith investigates applied problems using real-world data. His most recent research examines analysts’ forecasts and market efficiency.

  Asquith holds a BA in economics from Michigan State University as well as an AM and a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.

  Jake Cohen oversees MIT Sloan’s portfolio of degree programs, as well as the Offices of Admissions, Student Life, and Career Development. He is responsible for setting strategy for undergraduate and Master's programs, including the new Master of Business Analytics program.

  Cohen teaches financial accounting to Master of Finance and Executive Education students, as well as Israel Lab, the newest addition to MIT Sloan’s portfolio of Action Learning programs.

  From 2008 to 2011, Cohen was the dean of the MBA Program at INSEAD, directing strategy and operations for campuses in France, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi. Under his leadership, INSEAD expanded its degree programs and received its highest rankings ever among business school MBA programs. Prior to his academic career, Cohen worked as an accountant at KPMG LLP in Philadelphia, and as a mergers and acquisition consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in New York City. As an academic, he has consulted for a number of organizations, including BCG, Bain, Blackstone, ArcelorMittal, Schlumberger, Bel, Accenture, and BMO Capital.

  Vivek Farias

  Patrick J. McGovern (1959) Professor and a Professor of Operations Management, MIT Sloan School of Management

  Vivek Farias's research focuses on the development of new methodologies for large-scale dynamic optimization under uncertainty, and the application of these methodologies to the design of practical revenue management strategies across various industries ranging from airlines and retail to online advertising.

  Farias is a recipient of the 2006 INFORMS MSOM Student Paper prize for a research paper judged to be the best in the field of operations management. A consultant in the finance industry, he most recently contributed to GMO LLC’s first successful high-frequency algorithmic trading strategy.

  Farias holds a BS in computer engineering from the University of Arizona, and a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

  Charles Fine is the Chrysler Leaders for Global Operations Professor of Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Since 2015 he has also served as CEO, President, and Dean of the Asia School of Business (in Kuala Lumpur), established in collaboration with MIT Sloan.

  Charles Fine

  Chrysler Leaders for Global Operations Professor of Management, MIT Sloan School of Management

  Charles Fine is the Chrysler Leaders for Global Operations Professor of Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Since 2015 he has also served as CEO, President, and Dean of the Asia School of Business (in Kuala Lumpur), established in collaboration with MIT Sloan.

  His research focuses on supply chain strategy and value chain roadmapping, with a particular focus on fast-clockspeed manufacturing industries. Fine’s work has supported design and improvement of supply chain relationships for companies in electronics, automotive, aerospace, communications, and consumer products. His work has also examined outsourcing dynamics, with a focus on dynamic models for assessing the leverage among the various components in complex industrial value chains and the principles for value chain design, based on strategic and logistical assessments. Most recently, he works in the area of operations strategy for early-stage, entrepreneurial organizations.

  At MIT Sloan, he has taught Operations Strategy and Supply Chain Management. Fine teaches and consults widely with numerous global clients. He has served on the board of directors for Greenfuel Technologies Corporation, a biotechnology company that he co-founded, which focuses on renewable energy. Fine has also served for 17 years as co-director of an executive education program, Driving Strategic Innovation, which is a joint venture between MIT Sloan and IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.

  Fine is the author of "Clockspeed: Winning Industry Control in the Age of Temporary Advantage" (Perseus Books, 1998) and "Faster, Smarter, Greener: The Future of the Car and Urban Mobility" (MIT Press, 2017). His work on quality management, flexible manufacturing, supply chain management, and operations strategy has appeared in a variety of publications.

  Fine holds an AB in mathematics and management science from Duke University as well as an MS in operations research and a PhD in business administration from Stanford University.

  In his research and teaching, Paul McDonagh-Smith creates key intersection points between technology and business. He specializes in translating computer and data science into measurable business value that evolves organizational capability, transformation, and strategy.

  Paul is the Faculty Director on MIT Sloan’s, ‘Accelerating Digital Transformation with Algorithmic Business Thinking’, and ‘Digital Learning Strategy’ programs. As an early pioneer in Digital Reality, Paul has successfully invented and innovated with Extended Reality (XR) and metaverse technologies across multiple industries for more than 20 years and is Faculty Director on MIT Sloan’s, "Business Implications of Extended Reality (XR): Harnessing the Value of AR, VR. Metaverse, and More" program. Paul also teaches in, and contributes to, a wide range of MIT Sloan Executive Education programs.

  McDonagh-Smith is also the MIT Sloan Office of Executive Education Digital Capability Leader. In this role, he directs the growing portfolio of digital programs, works with the MIT Sloan team to define digital strategy, and drives transformative technology experimentation.

  He provides digital transformation, business model and strategy guidance to organizations across multiple industries and geographies as well as to a range of international government departments.

  Prior to MIT, Paul held senior roles in Optical Network Systems Engineering, R&D, Emerging Products and Technology, Business Transformation and Human Resources during a 20-year career in the telecoms industry.

  Paul is an advisor to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, under the supervision of chief scientist, Dr. James B. Garvin.

  Christopher Palmer teaches corporate finance. His research focuses on how credit, real estate, and labor markets respond to periods of significant upheaval.

  Palmer is also a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and an Affiliate with the Jameel Poverty Action Lab. He previously taught real estate finance at the University of California Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and was a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Prior to graduate school, he consulted with Compass-Lexecon.

  Palmer holds a BA in economics and mathematics from Brigham Young University and a PhD in economics from MIT.

  Antoinette Schoar

  Antoinette Schoar holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago and an undergraduate degree from Germany. Her research interests span from entrepreneurial finance to fintech, consumer finance, and financial intermediation. She has received several awards including the Kauffman Prize Medal for Distinguished Research in Entrepreneurship and the Brattle Prize for best paper in The Journal of Finance.

  Schoar is the co-chair of the NBER Corporate Finance group. She has served as an associate editor of The Journal of Finance, The American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, and the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

  Schoar's current research focuses on the areas of consumer finance, entrepreneurial finance, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology as well as new financial technologies. Some of her ongoing projects investigate competition in credit card markets, applications of behavioral economics to consumer finance and cryptocurrency trading, governance of proof of stake and proof of work blockchains, and decentralized finance (DeFi). She is also the executive editor of the Journal of Finance, the co-chair of the NBER Corporate Finance group, and a co-founder of ideas42, a non-profit that uses insights from behavioral economics and psychology to solve social problems.

  Zeynep Ton is a Professor of the Practice at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Her research focuses on how organizations can design and manage their operations in a way that satisfies employees, customers, and investors simultaneously. Her work has been published in a variety of journals, including Organization Science, Production and Operations Management, and the Harvard Business Review.

  In 2014, Zeynep published her findings in a book, "The Good Jobs Strategy: How the Smartest Companies Invest in Employees to Lower Costs and Boost Profits." The book draws on 15 years of research to show that the key to offering good jobs to employees, great service to customers, and superior returns to investors is combining investment in employees with specific operational choices that increase employees’ productivity, contribution, and motivation.

  After her book was released, company exeutives started reaching out to Zeynep to understand how to implement the Good Jobs Strategy in their organizations, or to describe how they were already adopting the strategy. Zeynep cofounded the nonprofit Good Jobs Institute to help them transform through assessments, workshops, and longer term partnerships.

  Prior to MIT Sloan, Zeynep spent seven years at Harvard Business School. She has received several awards for teaching excellence both at HBS and MIT Sloan.

  Zeynep lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with her husband and four children. A native of Turkey, she first came to the US on a volleyball scholarship from the Pennsylvania State University. She received her BS in industrial and manufacturing engineering there and her DBA from the Harvard Business School.
