  Michael Chavez is Global Managing Director for Duke Corporate Education. Previously, Michael served as CEO of Duke CE from 2016 to 2021. Michael is passionate about “rehumanizing leadership.” By engaging people around a purpose, shared meaning and empathy, he believes leaders can create the foundation for greater sustainability in a world that is more complex and unpredictable than ever.

  Michael’s research currently focuses on how leaders can most effectively shape, institutionalize and lead from a shared organizational purpose.

  Michael teaches, facilitates and advises in the areas of leadership and culture, organizational networks, team collaboration, strategy and execution. He brings to Duke CE more than 20 years of experience in the fields of executive management, marketing, strategy consulting and organizational learning and development. He has led projects all over the world and in a variety of industries, including technology, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, retail, financial services and media.

  Michael joined Duke CE in 2006 and held various leadership roles before becoming CEO in 2016. Before joining Duke CE, Michael spent over five years as a founding member of the executive team of a successful software start-up where he served as both VP of Professional Services and VP of Marketing. In these roles, he was instrumental in acquiring the company’s first Fortune 500 customers, delivering over $3 million in revenue in the first year of product delivery and leading to the company’s first round of institutional funding.

  Prior to his start-up experience, Michael was Director and Senior Learning Consultant at The Coca-Cola Company, where he worked closely with senior executives in Latin America and Europe to improve executive team effectiveness, develop leadership and organizational capability, and accelerate business performance through collaboration. Michael also worked as a strategic planning project lead for both The Coca-Cola Company and The Los Angeles Times.

  He began his consulting career as a strategy consultant for Kurt Salmon, working with large industrial, retail and consumer goods companies in the US, Canada, and Latin America where he led key projects on market entry and growth, operational effectiveness, joint ventures, and valuation. Michael holds an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Economics from UCLA. He is both a US and UK citizen and is fluent in both Spanish and French.

  He is an educator in Duke CE’s online course Building Strategic Agility, designed to help leaders be more agile and equip them with new skills, tools and instincts to navigate today’s environment and build more strategic agility into their organizations. Michael is the co-author with Sudhanshu Palsule of "Rehumanizing Leadership: Putting Purpose Back into Business, your guide to building engaged, resilient and innovative organizations in the 21st century".

  Dr. Wayne E. Mayer, CEO of When Everything Matters (WEMCo), is a strategic sustainability consultant skilled at leading companies to innovate and profit from social and environmental thinking. His approach to business tethers company practices to megatrends and positions companies as leaders in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.

  An alum of the Duke Nicholas School of the Environment, Dr. Mayer provides high-level advisory services to multi-national corporations and teaches for the Duke Environmental Leadership Master of Environmental Management (DEL-MEM) Program and the Business & Environment concentration within the Master of Environmental Management program. Dr. Mayer helps transform business models into authentic Sustainable Development partnerships. He works across industries and offers extensive involvement in the mining sector. Dr. Mayer also serves as a Senior Fellow at the Duke Center for International Development (DCID). He collaborates with Duke University’s working group on mining, which investigates the human and environmental impact of artisanal, small-scale mining.

  Dr. Mayer’s regional expertise encompasses Latin America; for years he resided in Venezuela and, later, Peru and worked on integrated conservation and development projects throughout South and Central America. A gifted communicator, he finds creative ways to build alliances with governments, communities, development banks, investors, and NGOs. A dynamic teacher and public speaker, Dr. Mayer empowers people to see the big-picture among disparate elements.

  Srini Pillay is the CEO of NeuroBusiness Group, a brain-based leadership development company, as well as Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Reulay, a machine learning platform that is designed to use AI to personalize VR/AR and mixed reality interventions to reduce stress, anxiety, burnout and associated chronic disease.

  After graduating as the top medical student at medical school in South Africa, Srini graduated from his residency in psychiatry as the top award-winning resident in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School where he stayed on as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. At McLean Hospital, Harvard’s largest psychiatric hospital, Srini was director of the Outpatient Anxiety Disorders Program and director of the Panic Disorders Research Program at the Brain Imaging Center at McLean Hospital where he was a nationally funded brain imaging researcher.

  Srini is also a certified master executive coach, formerly on the Executive Education faculty at Harvard Business School, now on faculty at Duke CE (#1 in custom corporate education in the US) and on a think tank at McKinsey & Co. Srini has pioneered a field called neurocoaching and worked with leaders globally to help them build more resilient, agile, and creative teams. Srini is also a musician and has just completed writing a musical. He has published several books including, “Your Brain and Business: The Neuroscience of Great Leaders,” “Life Unlocked: 7 Revolutionary Lessons to Overcome Fear,” “Tinker Dabble Doodle Try:Unlock the Power of the Unfocused Mind.”

  Karen Strating has over 20 years of experience in change management, team effectiveness, organizational and leader development, and executive coaching. Karen’s passion is building organizational capability to successfully drive business strategy.

  Karen worked at Microsoft Corporation as a leader in their internal organizational consulting group. As an adjunct faculty member at Duke CE, Karen has designed and facilitated numerous management and leadership development programs focusing on subjects such as leading changing, influencing for impact, collaboration, and developing high performing teams.

  Karen has an M.Ed in adult education and human resources development and is a graduate of the Advanced OD/HRM program at Columbia University. She has had the privilege of working with the following clients: Scotiabank, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Merck, American Express, CVS Health, and Cisco.
