Our Story

Built on the belief that leadership development should be more accessible for all leaders and more impactful for organizations, ExecOnline partners with the world’s top business schools to bring premium leadership development online.

2012

ExecOnline Pioneers Online Leadership Development

ExecOnline’s co-founders meet in a small hotel lounge in New York City and decide to form a start-up that will revolutionize the leadership development market. Shortly after, initial funding is secured.

2013

First School Partners and Program Launch

The ExecOnline vision becomes a reality as UC Berkeley Executive Education and Columbia join as the first school partners. ExecOnline launches its first program with UC Berkeley, focused on Leading Innovative Change and featuring Berkeley’s renowned faculty — all of whom are still associated today.

2014

MIT Sloan Partnership

MIT Sloan partners with ExecOnline to collaborate on the creation of innovative programs around Leading Operational Excellence and Leading through Financial Excellence.

2015

Yale and IMD Partnerships Announced

Partnerships with Yale School of Management and IMD Business School further broaden the offering of world-class leadership development for ExecOnline clients with a broad suite of programs.

2016

Inaugural ExecConnect Event

ExecOnline hosts its first ExecConnect, an annual event which brings senior talent leaders and HR professionals together to discuss important topics impacting leadership development. ExecOnline is named a “Top Tech Company to Watch” by Forbes.

2017

ExecOnline Has Continued Growth

A partnership with Wharton is announced to create programs focused on customer-centricity. Series B Funding of $16M helps ExecOnline grow the suite of enterprise-focused online leadership development offerings. The ASU+GSV Top Innovation in Education Award is presented to ExecOnline.

2018

ExecOnline Offerings Expanded

ExecOnline introduces a new Manager Essentials Suite to develop leadership and management skills as well as Coaching to further enhance leadership capabilities. Series C funding of $18M is announced.

2019

Chicago Booth and Stanford GSB Partnerships Announced

ExecOnline partners with Chicago Booth and Stanford Graduate School of Business, offering programs on business analytics and personal leadership, respectively.

2020

ExecOnline Innovates Through Adversity

Two months into the COVID-19 pandemic, ExecOnline and its business school partners introduce the innovative Applied Experience Platform to further democratize leadership development. ExecOnline also announces a partnership with Duke Corporate Education, offering a program focused on Workplace Wellness.

2021

ExecOnline Accelerates Growth and Surpasses Key Alumni Milestone

A Series D funding round of $45 million helps solidify ExecOnline’s strategic position in online leadership development. New partnerships are introduced with Tuck at Dartmouth, Ivey, and UVA Darden to expand offerings in strategic communication, leading inclusive teams, and accelerating people of color. Co-founder and CEO Stephen Bailey is presented with the ASU+GSV 2021 Innovator of Color Award. ExecOnline surpasses 60,000 alumni.
